Easter Camp Feedback - Zachary and Sam

The following are lesson feedback for Zachary and Sammy who have done a remarkable job in our lab. I have left them some homework to further improve on their games. The exercise code will be shared with them next week. Links are attached below where they can find their games to play on any devices, and to adjust codes.

Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to teach Zachary and Sam.

from Chris

Sam

Sammy came to class well prepared with questions. He had tried to tinker around with his own code to achieve a background changing feature before class. He was quick to point out my flawed logic in the code during the lesson. My impression of Sammy is that he is extraordinarily polite, loves to analyse information (what I taught), and thinks logically.

Progress

Sam finished the "Easter Bunny Hop'' arcade game in two hours, including modifications of the game to suit his preference. For example, he added four levels with corresponding seasonal backgrounds, and set the winning requirements. To have a glance of what the game is like, check out the link at the end.

Going Further

Add clouds/birds animation in the game. Maybe even Easter eggs for the bunny to collect.

Zachary:

During our conversation about Java (a programming language), I shared with Zachary that the language is often used in Android Studio to develop Android applications. He replied, "But the most efficient language to build apps is believed to be Kotlin." I found myself utterly dumbfounded again by the breadth of his knowledge. I didn't know how such a serious conversation with a boy took place after all. This is only one of the many anecdotes.

Progress:

Zachary managed to build scores of features for his "Space and Beyond" game from absolutely nothing, such as a powerful shield to protect the spaceship from all enemies for three seconds, ammo/health pack to boost your health and refill ammunition, HP bar, etc. His full-fledged game is aspiring to be one of the most popular games among our fellow lab-goers.

Going Further:

Add more images of enemies in the list. Write code to add an invisible mode to the spaceship.
